These Nanos are little insect-like robots. They move by vibration and let me tell you these dudes are fast. They do not work on carpeting though. Each HEXBUG® Nano comes with a special code that you can enter for online play. Here you can then learn about science and famous scientists, play games and register your Nano to keep track of your collection. HEXBUG® Nanos come in several collections--all named after scientists. So you've got the best of both worlds - educational and fun.
We only used the The HEXBUG® Nano Bridge Battle Set - which was very cool. There are also HEXBUG® Nano Habitat Sets. My kids used their imagination to build their ultimate battleground for their HEXBUG® Nanos. We added the spiral to the elevated arena where they scurry over an orange bridge, through one-way gates and meet in the center battle platform. These little critters nudge and knock their competitor out of the battle arena until only one bug is left standing and therefore, anointed the champion.
Building the set was very easy. They just fit together like a puzzle piece. Simple. Which means that in my world if it is this easy and quick to put together then it can be put away in pieces and rebuilt differently each time they want to play with it. So I do not have to have this toy sitting out on a shelf or floor because we are all afraid we will never get it back together.
The boys were loving this. My 10-year-old nephew told me afterwards that he thought is was going to be lame because he didn't comprehend how this vibrating bug bot was going to be fun - but he said it ended up being really very cool. He coned me into giving him some of the extra pieces I was sent so that he could build his own battle bridge. Yeah, I'm the cool Aunt.
They all really enjoyed it - girls and boys. I had kids there ages 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Every one of them had fun playing with these critters.
So I can sum this up for you very simply - this toy will most definitely be a huge hit in your home and you will love the fact that it is not huge and cumbersome. Unfortunately, my kids like to scare me with them by letting them scurry past my feet while in the kitchen - so beware of that.
Trust me YOU WILL want this as a Christmas gift for your kids!
